The next Cozytober fic I wrote ended up not being a drabble, but have it HERE on AO3 or below anyway because I love it so much.

-

The new young master--Alfred refrains from referring to him as such near Bruce, stubborn and grief-blind as he currently is--kicks his feet back and forth, tongue poking out just a bit as he scribbles intently at his homework. Alfred does not regret insisting that the boy come spend his after school hours at the manor when his parents are away, even if it drove Bruce into hiding in the Batcave for even more hours than before. While Alfred's son is grieving, he has rejected attempts at comfort, and he is a grown man. Tim may not be Alfred's child or even his ward in any proper sense, but Alfred has never been the kind of man who would stand by and abet the degree of the Drakes' neglect for their son to go uncontested.

"If I might inquire, Master Tim, what are you working on?"

The boy looks up, his legs stilling and his expression all at once shifting from open focus to guarded politeness. "My homework."

Alfred nods. "So I see. I have little knowledge of what a current curriculum for your grade might cover, though, and I would be interested in hearing about your studies if you would like to share."

It aches to see how cautious the boy clearly is, expecting a trap in any indication of attention or interest. Alfred merely waits, attempting to project only calm curiosity.

"Oh," Tim finally says. "Well, I'm working on this algebra problem right now..." he trails off, still appearing painfully unsure.

"I always enjoyed maths," Alfred offers. "Although I never progressed much beyond the basic classes I took in my youth. Are you enjoying it?"

Tim brightens, and then seems to catch himself, dimming his enthusiasm somewhat before he replies. "Yeah. It's interesting. It's kind of like a puzzle, you know? Except there's so many different ways to get to the right answer, and sometimes if I'm bored I'll try and figure out how many different ways I can find. You know?"

A great detective in the making, Alfred thinks, not without a little bit of sadness. He understands Tim's reasons for wanting to take up the Robin mantle; Alfred cannot truthfully say he disagrees with them. But he disagrees with allowing more children into this life, no matter how trapped Bruce may feel by Tim's ultimatum. "I'll admit, I was always more keen on finding one way to solve as many problems as I could," Alfred admits. "Would you show me what you're working on there? I'd like to see how you're addressing it."

"Yeah!" Tim agrees, pushing his notes over a little so that Alfred can come stand beside him, peering over his shoulder. His work is laid out neatly, and Alfred finds it easy to follow for all that it sometimes veers off toward the edges of the page, turning to cram all of the equations into some semblance of the same space.

They discuss the maths until it is nearly time for patrol. Alfred fights the urge to keep Tim here, safe in the warm glow of the kitchen lights, for the rest of the night. But perhaps... "Would you like some hot chocolate before you go out?"

Tim nods, hesitation eased away by their lengthy discussion. "Yes please! Thank you, Alfred."

As he prepares the hot chocolate for Tim and some tea for himself, Alfred finds that he is grateful for Tim's presence, both in this kitchen and in his life, no matter what brought him here. The past is done, but he will do his best to prevent them all from making the same mistakes. For Tim's sake, he hopes he succeeds.

Note: this was not directly derived from Something Next to Normal by Wolfjackle, but as evident in the title it was very spiritually inspired by that fic and how much I adore it.

TRICK: fear

[Podfic] Water of the Womb (by Andovia212) | Batman: Tim Drake-centric | Rated: T | Length: 38:22
After being badly injured and dosed up on a new Scarecrow toxin, Tim is not exactly doing well- to say the least. Being kept unconscious on meds may help the pain, but instead it leaves him stuck jumping through memory after memory of loneliness, loss, and the uncomfortable parallels in his life he's tried hard not to address.

[Podfic] Take My Heart (Again and Again and Again) (by chaWOOPa) | Danny Phantom x DC: Tim Drake-centric | Rated: T | Length: 20:35
Five times Tim Drake gained an unrequited soul bond and the one time he didn't.

[Podfic] Wild Child With a Broken Soul (by Sendryl) | DC x Danny Phantom: Bruce Wayne-centric | Rated: G | Length: 9:17
Bruce doesn't gain any marks throughout his childhood. Or his adolescence.
His marks appear on his skin in college and afterwards, each one marking the birth of another soulmate.
He thinks he'll end up being the older brother figure or weird uncle to a whole bunch of children, and figures he'll meet them when they're full grown.
He couldn't be more wrong.

TRICK
: chill

(WIP) [Podfic] you, the garden and the grave (by blackkat) | Star Wars: Granta Omega/Tarre Viszla | Rated: E | Chapter 1 Length: 32:14

In order to take all of Granta's holdings for himself, Tor draws on Telosian tradition and marries Granta off to the corpse of someone in his House. This someone is Tarre Vizsla, the last Mand'alor of House Vizsla and Jedi Master of great renown.
There's a reason the Jedi usually burn their dead. It's a shame the Tor didn't realize that before he stuck Tarre on a remote moon alongside a Force Blank with a habit of making the Force go just a little....odd sometimes.

TRICK: uncanny

[Podfic] So I Choke on Sun (by flowerparrish aka me!!) | Danny Phantom x DC | Rated: T | Length: 17:42
"One child is of your bloodline," she declared. "The other is a changeling of my realm. Choose wisely and take whichever you believe to be your son."

TRICK: werewolf

[Podfic] snap, snarl, and roll (by safelycapricious) | DC: Jason/Roy | Rated: T | Length: 9:54

The second thing Roy says to Jason after he’s gotten bit is “You’re going to have to ditch the helmet now I think.” The first this is honestly less of a thing and more of a cry of concern and then an amount of fussing that is somehow both deeply annoying and warm and comforting.

Hi Yuletide Creator! This is my first year signing up, but I love doing exchanges, so in case you were hoping for some guidance into my likes/dislikes and what I'm hoping for, I thought I would put this together!

Some of my general LIKES are: character studies, exploration of identity / gender / relationship dynamics, trans characters, neopronouns, fix-it fic, angst with a happy ending, hurt/comfort, crack treated seriously, found families getting to be happy, polyamory and queerplatonic relationships

Some of my favorite TROPES (but honestly I love most tropes): fake dating / didn't know they were dating / stealth dating / fake not-dating for a specific reason, there was only one bed (!!), mutual pining, soulmates

I really enjoy AUs, from canon-divergent to entirely alt universes. I'm also open to aus inspired by specific other (characters from x media but put in y media's universe), but I prefer that the story make sense if I'm unfamiliar with the secondary universe inspiring it. I also love crossovers/fandom fusions, but same thing applies about preferring it be fairly understandable even if I'm unfamiliar with the other media source!

Rating: I don't mind explicit fic, although I would definitely say I have a preference against it in general right now. That said, if there is smut, I tend to prefer it's either: mixed in with plot, focused on emotions, or about gender feelings in some way! I love trans smut whether it's literal or trans vibes, so that's definitely fair game.

Things I DO NOT WANT:
  • Noncon (dubcon can be hit or miss, but there's wiggle room)
  • "on screen" childbirth and/or graphic discussion of pregnancy (mentioned or minor in the story is fine)
  • psychiatric institutionalization as a story element (mention of past history with this is fine; focus on the effect of this, even after, less so)
  • relationships with unaddressed & starkly unequal power dynamics that lead to dubious consent scenarios
  • explicit/graphic self-harm or suicide (mentions are fine)

I'll stop there, but if you have any questions feel free to ask the mods to pass it along (? if that's a thing?). I'm sure I'll love whatever you write!!
